Easily entertained!

I spent Saturday with my Pop, brother and 2 of his darlings! We joined Pop at the Rocking HI to watch the pipeline crew bore under the corner of the property we call Sherwood Forest. The Mule needed gas!
We took a break for lunch at the "White Leghorn Cafe" a few miles down the road.
It is a VERY interesting place. The old wooden floor looks like the swells in the Gulf of Mexico! All the tables have shims to keep them semi-level!

Pop and Brandon found a cool spot to sit and observe the action on the boring pipes.
One of the crewmen was happy to explain how this instrument helped them pinpoint the location of the boring pipes underground. Pop and Alec were very interested. Trixie, not so much!
Then we went to another fenceline and watched the track hoe dig the pit where the borer would come out.
This dog showed up and kept us company while we watched!

Bug was more interested in what I was up to than the machinery at work!

She also entertained herself looking through my binoculars. I entertained myself taking photos of her entertaining herself!
It was nice to get away from all the housework awaiting me after a work week! Sadly, the housework is still awaiting me, so I best get busy!

Roomful of Rainbows

Last Sunday, I was feeling a little better and thought I had finally licked this cold. On Monday evening, I felt awful and have gone downhill again. I felt so bad that I even skipped my clogging practice on Wednesday and again today! I decided 2 weeks was long enough to "tough it out" and went to the doctor. I now have the "big guns" to fight this--antibiotics and cough syrup with codeine. The diagnosis was upper respiratory infection and bronchitis.
A couple of weeks ago, my teaching assistant and I helped our students make these awesome rainbow wind catchers. I saw them here on Meg's blog, " Whatever" for one of her Craft Thursdays. Our students loved making them. We really needed some bright colors after all the rainy dreary days we've had!
Now for some of the cough syrup!

Wet Hens

It has been raining here. A lot! My backyard is looking like a swamp.
I've been trying to let the chickens out into the yard since their run is pretty muddy. She looks as mad as a wet hen. Oh, she IS a wet hen!

Here comes the wet rooster.

They are thrilled to be out of that muddy run!

It seems that wet feathers require extra preening.

I am so ready for some sunshine! My cold is getting better, but I still have an annoying cough.
Y'all come back!

Running in Circles

Photos are from a morning wandering in my garden a few weeks ago!
The first two months of school are so busy that I feel like I'm running in circles. Then add several family birthdays, a clogging performance, and some events that I want to attend and things get really busy!
It doesn't help that I usually come down with something upper respiratory in September or October! It happens to be right NOW this year! cough cough hack sniffle

Oh, and have I complained about the muggy depressing HEAT and the mosquitoes that could carry a small child away!

They are so bad that we aren't taking students outside for recess or to the gym for PE! That means children with lots of pent up energy!

Add to that our current leaders leading our country "down the drain", and I could easily get overwhelmed or downright depressed!
O.K. enough doom and gloom! I'll pray for our country and hope we change the course of our country in November's elections.
Cooler weather will come eventually.
The mosquitoes will die off.
This cold will run its course.
How was this for the juxtaposition of tranquility and chaos?
Oh, and where did my font choices disappear to on my toolbar?
Y'all Come Back--Hope I haven't scared anyone away with my frustrated ramblings!

Critters in the garden

I actually awoke early on Sunday morning by choice. After my weekday alarm setting of 4:45 a.m., I usually sleep in on the weekend. Of course, 6:30 or 7:00 is still sleeping in by comparison. It was a nice morning-not hot and muggy! I decided to spend some time outside and enjoy it. Beasty decided to sit in my garden sink!
The banana or garden spiders are prolific in my yard this year. One is right alongside the gate leading into the chicken run! My sweety doesn't like spiders! They give him the creeps!

Their webs are beautiful.

I had a surprise this morning. At first I thought it was a piece of grass wound through the fence. It is non-venomous, so no worries!

Eggs in my basket

My three young chickens have started laying. Scarlett (Production Red) started laying first. She was followed quickly by Buffy (Buff Orpington) and then Gretl (Barred Rock). They are still laying smaller eggs. I am anxiously awaiting eggs from my Ameraucanas. It will probably be awhile!
