New Homes for New Plants

I have managed to get some of my new plants put into their new homes. The Diamond Frost Euphorbia looks great. I think I should get some more!

I put the new Ice Plant varieties into a hanging basket along with my original variety. Hopefully, the birds won't decide it is tastey! I had a large cast iron kettle full of ice plant on my patio at our previous house, and the House Sparrows took a liking to it. They ate all of the leaves.

I even see the beginnings of a bloom.

Pass the Peas Please!

Yippee, my cow peas, as the seed is called when I buy it in bulk at the feed store, are doing well! My Mom always called them Cream Peas. My whole family loves them, while I am the only one that loves squash, egg plant, and tomatoes--my other garden plants! The timing is good too! I'm thinking they will be ready to pick as school is letting out for the summer. They are pretty quick and easy to pick, but they are a bit time consuming to shell! I make the same mistake each year. I am anxious and pick them a bit too green. They taste fine, but they are a royal pain to shell when a little green. The pod needs to be slightly yellow and the peas loose inside!

Yum yum, it won't be long! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the bugs don't find them!

Happy Toes!

Ahhhhhh, recently cut grass, happy from today's rainshower. Toes happy about the soft grass and new nail polish! Me, happy because school is almost out!

A First and a Favorite!

This is my favorite daylily in my garden! It is "Pandora's Box". Of course, I 'm always looking for new varieties locally!

I have had several Plumeria plants for several years! This is the first bloom! Several more blossoms have opened, but I haven't had a chance to take photos. The scent is fabulous! I can't wait for more blooms!

Wheebarrow of plants!

This wheelbarrow of plants is a result of my trip to Devereux Gardens Nursery last Thursday.

This is a Montego Bay hibiscus. I absolutely fell in love with the color!

I saw the variegated variety of Ice Plant on the garden tour last weekend. I think they look nice together. Now I just need to figure out where to plant everything!

I think the big girls are dreaming of what's on the other side of the fence.

Hmm, I wonder what she is thinking? I have a feeling she is wondering how she can get over the fence.

Ah, the other side is so tempting!

Yup, More garden tour photos

Sorry, I still have MORE Garden Tour photos. I can't help myself. When I combine two loves, photography and flowers, I can get carried away! I love the color of this zinnia.

I didn't get the name of this flower, but I thought it was eye-catching!

Another, "I don't know it's name", but I can't resist anything that blooms lavender!

Whatever this was, it had a wicked looking trunk/stem!

The colors of this plant were breath-taking.

I'm off to help with our fundraising BBQ for our Neighborhood sign.

Plant Addict--Intervention needed!

I'm still on my garden tour high! This morning my co-worker, Pat, mentioned that she was planning to go to Devereax Gardens, a nursery several miles from our school.I really should have been going grocery shopping, but I couldn't resist going to look at plants! We wandered through the greenhouses for at least an hour. We both found plants to buy. We saw many plants that had been in the gardens on the tours! I think my total was 13 plants for $27. Of course, I'll be sharing some photos soon! Back to last Saturday's garden tour.

I really like this plant, Bat-Faced Cuphea. It comes is several colors.

This house was on the local historical home tour earlier this spring. I love the detail on the gable. The gardens were gorgeous too!

This gate is in the backyard of the same house. The pool pump is behind the fence and gates. There was a gardenia blooming in the backyard. It smelled wonderful. I was smitten. Pat liked it too! She bought one for each of us. She surprised me with mine this morning! She also brought a carrot cake muffin from Halepaska's for me. Halepaska's is a great local bakery. They call it a muffin, but is tastes like a big carrot-cake cupcake complete with the cream cheese frosting! She is spoiling me!

Ga Ga over gardens!

My co-worker, Pat, and I spent the day on Saturday touring six beautiful gardens. The tour was hosted by the Victoria Master Gardeners Association. I bought one new plant at the Featured Plant Sale. I know, that is unbelievable--just one. I do have a list of plants to look for! I also took 145 photos! Don't worry, I won't be posting all of them!

I think these grapes are so pretty. The owners of this garden in old Victoria had chickens!

This plant is Bat-Faced Cuphea. It comes in several varieties with slightly different colors. I bought one of these at the Featured Plant Sale.

Gazing balls were popular in the gardens. I especially liked this one.

I also love the aged look of this statue.

Prom Time!

Betts at Damn Yankee posted about her senior prom. That got me to thinking about my junior and senior proms. The dress styles were definitely different from the current styles! We also didn't go to the salon for a manicure and to get our hair done. In fact, I spent the day with my hair in sponge rollers the day of my junior prom. There was a grassfire adjoining one of our pastures. The whole family helped fight the fire, including me in my rollers. I went to the prom with smoke scented hair!! My "date", now my husband, didn't complain. I borrowed the yellow dress for my junion prom.

I loved my dress for my senior prom. My mom made it for me with a few modifications that I requested! Gee, I wish I could be that thin again!

Egg Study

I think it is so interesting that the chickens actually lay eggs with slightly different shapes. The egg on the left is the usual egg shape. The one on the right is more of an oval shape. O.K. I guess, I don't have much excitement in my life to be so impressed with 2 eggs!

Coon relocation!

Last Saturday evening, I set the box trap in my garden. I suspected that there was at least one more raccoon coming around looking for food a.k.a. chickens. I used an apple as bait. Sunday morning, I was greeted by a fat and unhappy coon. We were lucky to have a cardboard box that we could slip over the trap. We hauled it to a nearby river bridge and let it go under the bridge.

It took off and never looked back. On the way to school on Monday, I saw a dead coon on the side of the highway at the bridge. I sure hope it wasn't our coon! That would be rotten luck for it!

What's Blooming Now?

I want to share some of the latest blooms! The above is "Smoke Rings" daylily.

This is "Ming Porcelain" daylily. It reminds me of velvet.

Ummm. Not particularly beautiful, but yummy! This is one of my rows of cowpeas.

After several years of trying, I now have dill self-seeding in my garden!

This is Vitex. I think I have also heard it called Texas Lilac.

I still have a few zinnias that have self-seeded the last few years.

The peeps keep flying over a section of my chicken run fence that I never added that extra 2 foot of chicken wire to. My sweety and I have been working on it this evening.

The peeps are getting brave! They have discovered that they can perch on my temporary "fence".

Oh boy, this one's getting really brave. She is on top of the fence under the arbor. The fence is actually 3 feet shorter in this area. I may have to add another row of wire if the peeps continue to fly so well!
