I was so excited to find 2 eggs in Cackleberry Cottage today! Ethel has been laying an egg a day for weeks now! This is Aretha's first. I love the way it is speckled. I think Lucy will be next! It has been really hot here lately, so I haven't been spending much time outdoors. I have also been busy with school. The first few weeks are always the most hectic. My 13 year old son, is playing football. He has practice until 5:30 each afternoon. I was upset to find out that my school's PTO Open House is on the same day and time as my son's first football game! boo-hoo!
Ya'll Come Back Now!

And what a beautiful, speckly egg! I would hollow it out and keep it, it is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteGood Idea! After the first few eggs the speckling no longer occurs. I should "blow" those for pysanky. I have a kit that I have never used. (Ukranian egg dyeing using a wax resist method)

Yippee! You make me wish we could have chickens. Growing up that was one of my favorite chores to do..gathering eggs.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that about the speckled eggs either. You should try the egg dyeing.

This isn't about the eggs, but the bats! I went back and read your older posts on the bats; how interesting!
ReplyDeleteWhen I read your comment on my blog, I mistakenly read "bath house"; well, I thought you had a changing room for your swimming pool! duh, I never claimed to be smart. Anyway, the bats are more interesting than a house for swim guests, haha.
Hi Lorilee :)
ReplyDeleteThat story you told about your dad shooting the cicadas cracked me up!
That egg is beautiful :)
Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

Fresh eggs, how lovely is that. My nan and pops used to live on a farm, with rather large hen house, but it was so fun collecting eggs. They also had a grumpy goose called "Freda" who was their guard-dog, who used to chase us around the farm.....bygone days.....
