Poor Madeline was the victim of a raccoon that found a weak spot in our chicken enclosure. She was probably roosting closest to the door of the coop because she was the lowest in the pecking order. Buffy has some missing feathers and a scratch on her back. We will be making a trip to Lowe's and repairing the enclosure. Poor girl. It makes me sad.

ReplyDeleteOh I am so sorry. I have not lost any of my hens yet. But we are dealing with feather mites at this time. My hens are a year old this month and it is the first chickens we have owned and I did not have a clue what was going on with them. We dusted them and the hen house today and hope that they are all well soon. We have a couple that are missing a lot of feathers and all but one of the twelve are missing feathers someplace on their body. So hard when you love them, name them and think you are taking good care of them to have these things happen.
