Pre-Christmas Surprise!

During the week of Thanksgiving, I was surprised with a gift from longtime friend. The bird curio that belonged to my husband's grandmother was moved to our dining area and the barrister shelves took that place. Many of the items in the shelves are from my friend as well. I am so honored to be entrusted with these treasures.
I have admired them since I was in High school. They still contain the original wavy glass.

I also received china and Fostoria. I spent several days doing some major re-arranging in my large curio, hutch and other cabinets! Then the Christmas decorating began, which didn't leave much time for blogging. Now that I am out of school until the New Year,so I hope to catch up on blogging and many other things.

Dish Love of MIne!

I helped my SIL and a friend with a Church Rummage Sale. I also found some wonderful treasures at good prices! I added 4 cups and saucers to my collection. I adore this iced tea/water pitcher.
My SIL and I shared some glass plates and punch cups. Now we need to have a fancy party! We will probably be using them for our Annual Cookie Exchange. I can't believe that this will be our 9th year for it! AND as we all know, Christmas will be here in no time.
Now, I just need a Butler's Pantry to store all of my dishes in!

Old Stuff, Strudel and a Scorpion

One would think that I could post more consistently now that I am out of school for the summer! I have not yet shared some awesome things that I got at an estate sale. This is a Kromax Lazy Susan. I love it! The stainless base could also be used separately.
I just love its sparkle! The original box was also there!
I also found this wonderful stainless sugar and creamer set,
along with a glass hen.
I spent one whole day making strudels. I made four in all. I baked one and froze the rest to bake later.
My hubby took one of his weeks of vacation the first week of June. We didn't go anywhere, but I did manage to talk him into going to the mall and our newly opened T.J. Maxx. We each found some clothes. We also cleaned out our closet. These are bags destined for Goodwill. I've also done quite a bit of non-blogworthy cleaning! I attended a 2 day teacher training, and I nearly got stung by a scorpion for the 4th time in my bed. I was awakened as I felt something on my sleeve. Still half asleep, I instinctively moved to brush at my sleeve. Then I felt the familiar sensation of a scorpion. It didn't manage a direct sting, but it managed to brush my finger with venom. I sat up, yelling at my husband to turn on the light. Then, we couldn't find it, and I was afraid to even move. Finally, we spotted it on the sheet, so I slid out of bed. My husband grabbed the first shoes he saw, his Crocs, and attempted to smoosh it between them. Crocs are NOT effective scorpion smooshers. Then we couldn't find it AGAIN. We pulled back sheets, moved pillows, lifted dust ruffles and looked beneath furniture to no avail. All we found was an abundance of dust bunnies!  Finally, my husband said that HE wasn't getting back in that bed and was just going to get ready for work. I decided to vacuum the dust bunnies. While vacuuming, I found the scorpion, but I vacuumed it up before it registered in my brain! I should have taken out the bag and thrown it way, but I didn't want to waste a fresh bag. (SEBO bags are not cheap) The next evening, I was with family at the lake, when my husband texted to inform me that he had gotten into the shower to find a scorpion on the shower curtain. We decided that the scorpion had crawled out of the vacuum! I am still having trouble sleeping in my bed!

To Grandmother's House we went

Brian (teenager) and I went to my Grandma's house to help clean inside her kitchen cabinets. It has been awhile since I've helped with that job, but it was a summer tradition when I was growing up. She was in a "cleaning out " mood and gave me several boxes of dishes, AND she still has LOTS in her cabinets! Above are some Fire King saucers.
-glass coasters,

Forest Green glasses and pitcher,

Queen Mary bowls, (Grandma used these for homemade icecream!)

Old Cafe bowl,

Queen Mary divided dish,

Forest Green, but I don't know the pattern...

blue cups and saucers, another pattern I can't identify...

more bowls, this time I think the pattern is Burple,

A bowl marked "Maddux" and 1959...

Opalescent Hobnail dish,

Jelly or jam serving set,

Covered Compote.
I think I inherited my love of dishes from my Grandma Bessie! If I have any patterns incorrectly identified or you know a pattern that I didn't identify, please let me know.

$ 2.17 worth of treasures!

I am always reading on other peoples' blogs about their great finds at resale shops! I finally found some goodies really cheap and I love cheap. It is almost as good as FREE! The green plates match a set of juice size glasses that I have from my Grandmother. They are a bit scratched from use, but that is OK at fifty cents each! The little bowl and tray were also fifty cents each. So with 17 cents for tax, I came home with my goodies! I do believe I will be returning to that shop!

Inherited dishes!

My Sweety's Grandmother recently went into a nursing home. After her house was broken into twice, the family began to empty the house and find new homes for many of her belongings. We are taking care of some glassware.

My Sweety is thrilled to have his Great-Grandfather's humidor and pipe stand with a pipe.

Cardinal Collection

I love cardinals. My Mom also loved cardinals. Not only do I have cardinals visiting my birdfeeders, but they are also IN my house! This is one of four of our Wegner prints. We also have the Goldfinches, Indigo Buntings and Ruby-throated Hummingbird prints.
My sister-in-law gave me this chirping cardinal.

This mug belonged to my Mother.
The Home Interior Cardinals belonged to my husband's grandmother.
My mother-in-law gave this mug to me.
The Andrea Cardinal also belonged to my husband's grandmother. She collected all kinds of bird figurines.
Cardinals in the small curio cabinet.
Another Cardinal that belonged to my husband's grandmother.
This little cardinal is a magnet that attaches to glass.
My sister-in-law also gave me this shelf-sitting cardinal.
I can alway find room for one more Cardinal!
