Clogging at the Port Lavaca Flip Flop Festival

I am a member of The Stars and Stripes Cloggers. We joined our "sister" group the Kolache Kloggers and performed at the Port Lavaca Flip Flop Festival on Labor Day weekend.  We had a wonderful time clogging and visiting the booths.
Stars and Stripes performed some songs, Kolache Kloggers performed some songs, and we performed some together.
This was a move from "All Shook Up".
 And "Rosine".
My niece, nicknamed Bug, started clogging in June. She already has two performances to brag about. (along with going to State in swimming.)
We are all dancing "You Can't Take the Texas Out of Me" here.
Here we are all together. Kolache Kloggers are from Halletsville, Texas, famous for its Kolache Festival and Fiddlers Frolic. We will all be performing at the Kolache Festival at the end of September. Both groups provide free clogging lessons! The Kolache Kloggers are Lexi, Marla, Jayde and Kassie (director)
Stars and Strips-Bug, Me, Susan (director), Martha and Skyeleigh.

Veterans' Day!

Some of our clogging group, Stars and Stripes Cloggers, performed in the Calhoun High School's Tribute to Veterans on November 11. The faculty and students did a wonderful job honoring our nations veterans. We were honored to be able to participate. Sadly, I don't have any photos to share.
I took some photos around my yard that afternoon, so I'll share them.  I love the way my Ruby Crystals grass looks in the setting sun.
Actually, I love the way the whole yard looks in the setting sun!

Little Rascal, you better stay home!

Clogging weekend!

It was a clogging weekend! I attended the Texas Clogging Council's Clogging Rally in Waco with my clogging group, Stars and Stripes Cloggers. We had a wonderful time. We took two vehicles and 5 junior cloggers with us. One of the vendors was selling foot and body massagers. We thoroughly enjoyed the demonstration! See the huge smiles on our faces!
The Rally began with dances being taught on Friday afternoon. Friday evening was the Fun Dance. They played songs from the "Texas Dance List" for clogging, and called the steps to the dances. I tried hard to keep up!

There were dances taught all day on Saturday. Martha and I were really concentrating to remember the steps. We also went to a class on the "Drag, Slide" technique. The instructor was great, but I am not sure I am ready to work it into my steps yet!
A friendly fellow rally goer took a photo of our whole group. On Saturday night there was an Exhibition Program. The groups that performed were wonderful. Thank you, Martha for letting me use your photos! I was too lazy to get my camera out most of the time!
We left on Sunday morning after having breakfast at Cracker Barrel. I found some chicken goodies to bring home with me at the gift shop!
Every chicken owner MUST have a chicken coffee mug!
AND a rooster tassle!
FUN FUN FUN, but on Monday, I was TIRED TIRED TIRED! I'm so glad it is Spring Break.

Sunday Exhibitions!

The Stars & Stripes Cloggers put on two exhibitions at local church celebrations this Sunday. We performed 6 dances at each church. I think we got our exercise for the day! We danced to "Sky Full of Angels", "Sugar Foot Rag", "Turkey in the Straw", "Bad Moon Risin'", "Religion in Glory", and "Amos Moses". We had a great time! We always do when we dance! My sweety took some video of us practicing before our first performance today. This is "Bad Moon Risin' ".

Clogging Fever

On Friday evening, we returned to the Waco Convention Center for the "Fun Dance". Valerie and Faith are dancing to one of the songs. They usually play songs off the Texas Dance List. We hope to learn more dances off the list for next year! We returned on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. to start dancing again! From 9-11, we learned "Cowboy Boogie", "Way Down Texas Way", and "Come on Over". We took a break for lunch and drove to the shopping center to check out Crop, Paper, Scissors . I was disappointed that they did not have "Apronology". We returned to the Convention Center to dance from 1-4. The dances were to the songs, "Up", "Fantasy", "Signed, Sealed, Delivered", and "Three Time Loser".
Eunice, Valerie and Faith are taking a break between dances.

After the last dance class, we went to eat at Buzzard Billy's. After eating, I thought I locked my keys in the Trailblazer. After several minutes of frantic searching, I found them in a side pocket of my purse! Big sigh of relief! We returned to the Convention Center and explored the Waco Suspension Bridge across the street.

It was pretty cold, so we didn't stay too long.

I love this glass brick wall that is part of the convention center.
Since we arrived VERY early, we were able to get seats in the second row. The Exhibition was awesome!

This team danced to a medley of show tunes including "Dancing Queen" from Mama Mia.

This team danced to "Man, I feel like a Woman". The dance was really cute, and I loved their costumes.
We had a wonderful time, and we only got lost once!

Clogging in the Rain!

After driving through glorious rain for 4 hours, we arrived at the Waco Convention Center.

It was not only wet, but it was cold too!

We warmed up quickly once we started clogging! We danced to "Hit Me Up" from the movie Happy Feet first. Then we danced to Ida Red by Huey Lewis and Willie Nelson.

Last of all was "Jeans On". The last one had too many new steps for me!

This is John Pryor teaching Ida Red!
After the workshops, we found our hotel and checked in. We ate and then "tried" to return to the convention center. We did stop in to check out the hours on a store called "Crop, Paper, Scissors", that according to the website carries Apronology. We will try to take a clogging break at lunch tomorrow to check it out. Somehow, after leaving the shopping center, we made a wrong turn. It took a little extra time, but we made it to the convention center again to watch the folks dancing for the "fun dance".

My Bags Are Packed!

Well, they aren't quite packed, but they will be soon. I invested in a new piece of luggage. I am so thrilled to have wheels!

Of course, this shirt is going with me! I am so excited about the Texas Clogging Rally this weekend in Waco. I better get started. I also need to clean out and vacuum my Trailblazer. Hauling teenage boys around doesn't lend itself to a clean vehicle!

Famous ankles!

Wow, my legs were in the newspaper! I'm sure glad that I shaved. I only wish I had used my tanning lotion!
Our clogging group was featured in the Faith section of our local newspaper. This last Saturday, we danced 6 dances at our local mall. Some of the group will be going to Waco for the Texas Clogging Rally next weekend! I can't wait!

Clogging in Seadrift!

I had a wonderful day on Saturday! I awoke early and drove to Seadrift for a clogging workshop. I spent the day clogging with this group of wonderful folks! Three of the ladies taught us dances from the Texas Dance list! We learned "Bad Moon Risin", "Mama Mia", "Rocky Top", "Boot Scootin' Boogie", and "Jump". I sure was pooped on Saturday evening! I was falling asleep by 9:45!

Let's Go to Luckenbach, Texas!

Friday was the beginning of a "Girls' Weekend" for my sister-in-law, Marie, my niece, Hannah and I. Originally, it was to be my sweety and I, but he was unable to get Saturday off from work! Hannah was so excited about the trip. She stayed awake the whole drive 7 p.m. until 11 p.m.. After all that driving, she can sing along to the Mama Mia soundtrack! Here she is getting ready for bed at the motel!

On Saturday morning, we had our breakfast at Rather Sweet Bakery. Cheddar Bacon scones for the big girls and a Jailhouse Cinnamon roll for Bug.

We spent most of Saturday in Luckenbach. I attempted to clog, but I am not proficient with enough of the steps to learn the dances as quickly as they were teaching them. It was awesome to watch!

We wandered down to the creek. Much of it was dry due to the drought!

Marie, Bug and I are in front of the Old post office and store. It was overcast and cool by South Texas standards! Needless to say, Luckenbach is pretty laid back with chickens wandering around.

This cowboy showed up on the longhorn. He said it answered to "Shotgun".

The cowboy and Mom are trying to convince Bug to sit on Shotgun for a photo. She remains unconvinced that this would be a good idea! Maybe the Aggie blood from Mom and Dad makes her instinctively avoid longhorns!

Eventhough our group of cloggers is all female, there ARE men who clog---and quite well! The man on the left is Buster Green, an instructor and on the right is John Pryor another instructor. I was in awe of the wonderful dancers at the workshop! Bug was worn out from all the excitement of Luckenbach! She napped while we watched the clogging.

Ya'll Come Back Now!
