Call me strange, but I am fascinated with my chickens' eggs. When I gathered these eggs, I was surprised the find that one was quite a bit smaller than the rest. Usually, they are more uniform in size. One also had speckles that looked almost like paint drips! They don't show up very well in the photo. (It is the egg on the upper left).

I would like to get some laying hens...I love fresh eggs, and I'm spending $4.55 for brown eggs at the store. :(
ReplyDeletePerhaps you have a type of chicken Cuckoo in your vicinity. Cuckoos like to lay their eggs in other bird's nests!
ReplyDeleteMy aunt used to have some fancy chicken that laid pastel blue-green eggs. It was amazing!
ReplyDeleteI am fascinated by owning chickens. I have two big dogs who would find chickens very interesting. I would think having fresh eggs would be nice. I can see the speckles.

I HAVE LEARNED SO MUCH READING YOUR BLOG. I LOVE THE PICTURES OF YOUR CHICKEN EGGS.
ReplyDeleteI COULD NOT SEE THE SPECKLES REAL WELL BUT I AM SURE IT IS MY EYES.
THANKS FOR SHARING.

You're so lucky to get fresh eggs. So much better than store bought. I'm going to try that soup recipe. I love soup of any kind in the winter. Mimi
ReplyDeleteI would love to have fresh eggs.
ReplyDeleteStore eggs just don't seem to measure up.
I remember my MIL used to get brown eggs and my sons thought that they came from her brown chicken.
City folks.LOL
Hi Sharon,
ReplyDeleteThe eggs look so nice and fresh! I used to have a bunch of chickens of every color and size, but gave up on having them a few years ago. Are you chickens laying real well now? Usually they slow down in the winter.
Hope you don't get too much snow!
Hugs,
Renie
How awesome that you gather your own fresh eggs. My grandmother used to buy brown eggs from a farmer friend as they were less expensive than white ones. For some reason the eggs would frequently have double yolks. I remember being facinated by them.
